The Historical-Recidivist-in-Chief takes a hit

In a completely unexpected twist, historians and scholars who eked out better grades in college than Mr. Bush’s C-average are taking issue with his “interpretation” yesterday of the lessons of Vietnam.

I used to think you were crazy; now a military coup sounds almost reasonable.

Anyhow, it's not up to them (coups tend to lead to out-and-out dictatorships, as opposed to our current de facto one). It's up to us.

Hell, even John Warner is calling for a speedy beginning of a withdrawal. I think if Bush and Cheney push too hard at this late date, their own party will pull them back from the brink if only in the interests of furthering their own political careers.

If Bush does declare himself Emperor (a possibility that isn't entirely remote), he will require a large army to prevent the rest of us (the beautiful mob) from removing him from office limb by limb. (Perhaps we could just flush him and Cheney down the toilet.)
